iSMART Developments has announced the results of a 12-week clinical study of faceLITE PRO, its fivewavelength red and near-infrared LED face mask designed to support visible improvements across multiple signs of skin ageing

The study evaluated facial wrinkles, under-eye dark circles, pigmentation and erythema (visible redness), giving consumers a detailed evidence base for how the device performed during regular athome use.

How was the faceLITE PRO clinical study conducted?

The single-site US study enrolled 24 adults, with an average age of 48, and included participants across all Fitzpatrick skin types. Participants used faceLITE PRO at home for 10 minutes per treatment, five times per week, for 12 weeks.

Clinical assessments took place at baseline, Week 9 and Week 14. These included physician-rated wrinkle scoring, a photo-numeric scale for under-eye dark circles, pigmentation and erythema assessments, standardised photography and participant-reported outcomes. Masked and randomised before-and-after images were also reviewed by independent blinded physicians

What wavelengths does faceLITE PRO use?

faceLITE PRO combines three red-light wavelengths - 610 nm, 630 nm and 660 nm - with two nearinfrared wavelengths - 850 nm and 1070 nm. The five-wavelength system is designed as a multi-layer photobiomodulation treatment, bringing red and near-infrared light together in one wearable device.

Key clinical results

  • 79% of participants showed at least a one-grade improvement in facial wrinkles.
  • 100% showed visible improvement in under-eye dark circles by the end of the study; the average score improved from 5.9 to 3.9.
  • 87.5% showed at least a one-grade improvement in pigmentation.
  • 66.7% showed at least a one-grade improvement in erythema (visible redness).
  • 100% reported an improvement in their overall facial appearance at the post-treatment assessment

These results are important because the study assessed several common visible signs of ageing within the same treatment protocol, rather than focusing on a single cosmetic concern.

Safety and tolerability

No adverse events were reported during the treatment period. An extended follow-up eight weeks after treatment completion also identified no treatment-related incidents, with the device reported as well tolerated under the conditions of the study.
